About this course:
This is a three week online course that includes a case study, discussion forums, quizes and exercises to put into practice the concepts and theories of project management. In this course you will gain a strong working knowledge of the basics of development project management and be able to immediately use that knowledge to manage your projects.
Course Audience
This course is designed specifically for anybody interested in starting a career in project management. Course participants include: team members, program managers, project supervisors and project managers wishing to upgrade their skills and knowledge to understand the basic concepts of modern project management.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of the Fundamentals of Project Management online course participants will: Understand the key terms, definitions of project management. Describe the project cycle and the management processes, identify project structures, understand the roles and responsibilities and have a clear understanding of project, program and portfolio management.
Course Requirements
There are no requirements to take this course, although the students will benefit if they know the type of work that occurs in development organizations and development projects, or had some experience working on a project.. Students should have a good internet connection, Adobe Reader in their computers as well as MS Office to work on the course assignments.
Learning Methodology
Course activities are asynchronous; students are not required to be online at a specific time. All course material can be downloaded. Students participate in discussion forums, take online tests and submit exercises for review by the instructor. Learning is guided by social constructionist pedagogy, where students participate and share their experiences with each other building a common knowledge of project management.
